Privacy

The short version

This site has no accounts, no logins and no user profiles. It does not ask who you are to show you a listing. What follows is the full list of places data does go.

Analytics

The site uses Google Analytics 4 to count page views and understand which pages are useful. It records the usual web analytics data: pages visited, approximate location derived from IP address, device and browser type, and referring site. It is not used to identify individuals and the data is not sold or shared with anyone other than Google as the processor.

Advertising

The site is funded by display advertising served by Google. Advertising cookies may be used to select and measure ads. Google's handling of that data is governed by its own policies, and ad personalisation can be controlled from Google's own advertising settings rather than from here.

Your location

The "nearest to me" feature uses your browser's geolocation, and only after you allow it when the browser asks. Your coordinates are used inside your own browser to sort the list and are not sent to this site's servers and not stored. Decline the prompt and everything else on the page continues to work; you just sort by something other than distance.

The newsletter and the correction form

Both forms are submitted through Web3Forms, a form-handling service, which passes the message to the editor's mailbox. For the newsletter, the only field required is an email address, and it is used for nothing except the newsletter. Every newsletter email carries an unsubscribe link, and an unsubscribe request removes the address rather than suppressing it.

For the correction form, an email address is optional and is used only to reply to you about that message.

What is not here

• No accounts, no passwords, no profiles
• No selling or renting of personal data to anyone
• No tracking pixels beyond the analytics and advertising described above
• No collection of review text, reviewer names or reviewer photographs. Where a rating is shown it is a numeric average and a count, and nothing else

Business information in the listings

Listings are drawn from public government registers of licensed businesses. They contain business information: trading name, business address, license class and license dates. Where a register happens to publish a business phone number, it is shown. If you believe a listing contains information that should not be there, use the contact page and say which record and why.
