Work and rest calculator
For solo drivers of fatigue-regulated heavy vehicles on standard hours. Tap Work or Rest as it changes and see when your next rest is due. Your log stays on this device.
How it counts
Time is counted in 15-minute blocks: a block counts as rest only if all of it is rest, so work always rounds up. The calculator checks every rolling period of 5½, 8, 11 and 24 hours and the last 7 days, then works forward from now to find the first moment a limit would be broken if you kept working.
| In any period of | Maximum work | Minimum rest |
|---|---|---|
| 5½ hours | 5¼ hours | 15 continuous minutes |
| 8 hours | 7½ hours | 30 minutes in 15-minute blocks |
| 11 hours | 10 hours | 60 minutes in 15-minute blocks |
| 24 hours | 12 hours | 7 continuous hours stationary rest |
| 7 days | 72 hours | 24 continuous hours stationary rest |
What it does not do
- The 14-day limits and night rest breaks.
- Two-up, bus and coach, BFM, AFM, Alternative Compliance Hours and exemption hours.
- It is not a work diary. Record your hours in your written or electronic work diary as the law requires.
The rules in full: work and rest hours.
Questions
Does rest in a moving truck count?
Not for a solo driver on standard hours: the 7-hour and 24-hour rests must be stationary rest, out of the vehicle or in an approved sleeper berth of a stationary vehicle. Only rest counts; tap Rest only when you are resting.
